⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐5/5 based on our client reviews
Finding flood water collecting where it is not supposed to can create a real issue in your home.
If you are currently experiencing a nasty flood in your home, here is a list of our procedure from you finding unwanted water, making an insurance claim if necessary, to getting flood cleanup & restoration service done right.

Locate The Water Source
From a bad storm with heavy rain to a sump pump with a bad battery. Maybe sewage backs up or a washing machine hose ruptures in your home. Whatever the cause, from flooding you’re facing in your basement, crawl space or main level. You want to take action fast. We want to move quickly as possible to limit the severity of any emergency floodwater that will damage the surrounding areas. Our rapid response team is ready for your call as our technicians are IICRC certified and experts in finished and unfinished spaces.
Allow The Flood Water To Drain
For a flood that is not so severe for emergency attention. There’s one step we need to take before anything else. We want to check and make sure the water is draining. If your sump pump is broken, your lowest point drain will be doing all the work and it could take 24 hours plus to drain. Just make sure there is nothing clogging the drain. You will want to contact a plumber to come and fix your sump pump. If your sump pump works, we just have to wait it out until the flood water has drained before we can begin cleanup & restoration.
Contact Your Insurance Company
Your homeowner’s insurance will cover residential water damage as long as it’s not by fault of your own. There is specific coverage for floods so make sure to clarify this with your agent. Go ahead and call your insurance agent if the damage is severe enough and let them know about the flood damage and schedule an inspection to assess the losses. They will ask you if you have a flood damage restoration company that you have called or give you a referral. Dealing with your insurance company throughout the flood water extraction, cleanup, restoration, and reconstruction process can be kind of a pain so make sure your flood cleanup & restoration company can handle it for you.
Schedule Flood Source Assessment
Experiencing an emergency flood it is vital to address the problem immediately. Do not hesitate to call your local flood damage experts for rapid response mobilization. If it’s not an emergency situation there is virtually nothing we can do but wait until the water has drained. By beginning water extraction early, the flood water would just continue to come and the project would just cost more. With flood damage that is not severe and you prefer not to use your insurance coverage, companies like HCR can always come to you and assess the flood damage and give you an estimate to help you determine if you want to make a claim. You will want to describe the following: Where the incident occurred. When the flood accident occurred. If you smell any odors. Any damaged belongings. HCR or another expert can further address any questions based on your specific situation.
Stay In A Safe Environment
Once you have assessed the flood source and any damage. If you are looking to investigate further the area yourself, make sure to wear the proper protective gear. For example, if your basement has flooded, experienced sewage backup, or a sump pump backup you will want to wear rubber boots because the flood water may contain waterborne bacteria. In many cases, for safety precautions, you will want to turn off the electricity in areas of your residence. For a situation where the flood damage occurred a few days ago, you will want to wear protective masks as mold spores have begun to grow.
Document Your Flood Damaged Property
It is very important that if you do decide to make a flood damage insurance claim that you take pictures, videos, and notes of everything that has been damaged that is not salvageable. You can place all of the property documents into a digital folder and share this with your insurance agent. This includes your personal belongings such as appliances, furniture, electronics, and clothing. You will also want to account for your residential elements like the ceiling, walls, and floor. If you are unable to assess what is salvageable your flood damage technicians will be able to assist you in all types of property loss.
Keep Your Point Of Contact Available For Updates
When you are working with your flood damage technician it’s important to have a main point of contact available during the time the flood damage cleanup process is in place. You can establish a time that is best to be contacted but make sure if you have a second point of contact that you make your expert aware just in case. The mitigation, cleanup, and restoration process is a 24/7 procedure. So it is important that if there are updates about your residence, an estimate, or a claim that you can be available to discuss the steps further.
Call Your Agent For Flood Coverage Details
After the property has been assessed, an estimate has been given, and your agent and flood damage technician have began communication. You are free to go about your regular schedule. Along the way, your flood damage expert will guide you in terms of salvageable belongings, conditions, the day by day process, the proper equipment, and necessary resources to get your residence back to pre-loss. Sometimes it can be a headache to get ahold of your agent about your coverage so make sure to ask your flood damage expert for help here.
Ensure All Drying Equipment Is Running 24/7
One of the most crucial elements during the entire process is mitigation. The air movers and dehumidifiers speed up the drying process and you want to circulate as much air volume as possible. HCR knows exactly where to set up the equipment so that it creates crosscurrents through out water-damaged areas. It may be tempting to unplug the equipment but allowing the areas to dry, it will save more time to move into the cleanup and sanitization process.
Specialized Cleanup & Sanitization
As everything is thoroughly dry, HCR will begin the cleanup procedure. We sanitize every single surface and porous materials with proper techniques and antimicrobial products. Air scrubbers restore a fresh atmosphere, after a deep steam cleaning your carpet comes back to life looking new, and many wet belongings can often be recovered without our specialized cleaning practices.
Restoration and Reconstruction
Now it’s time to repair and rebuild. Parts of your ceiling, walls, or floor have been stripped from the water damage. It’s time to finish the job and restore your property to it’s original condition. From minor jobs to large projects you may want to do it yourself, but we recommend letting us step in. As your local experts, we partner with many of the local material companies and with better prices for us means better prices for you. Save the time, money, and headache by choosing HCR.
Flood Damage Pre-Loss Conditions
Deep breathe in, deep breathe out. Finally, it’s been a few days, a week, or maybe a little more depending on the water damage severity. However, you finally have your healthy home back in a magical environment you can call your own. No mess, no headache, not even a single concern. All because you chose the right professionals to handle what they know best. Pat yourself on the back for making the right choice and feel free to gloat (refer) your property restoration team.

Seven Steps After A Flood
Alert An Expert
You stepped into an unknown situation. One that can quickly become worse if not handled properly. Call your local emergency professional for immediate advice and an assessment.
Photgraph The Aftermath
Remove Flood Water
A couple of inches of standing water can usually be removed with a wet vac. If you don’t have a wet vac, buy, borrow or rent one from us. Major flood water damage will need a professional such as HCR. If your damage is minor, you can use towels to wipe the water up, but they should immediately be washed and dried to prevent mold growth.
Clear Drainage
Around the house, clear out your gutters and downspouts. Remove any branches, twigs, leaves, soil, mud, or other debris. Put on your rubber gloves and boots on and check your basement steps, drains, or any foundation cracks. In your basement, remove the drain screen and give it a nice cleaning. If necessary, use a plumber’s snake to clear the drain.
Create Air Circulation
Use dehumidifiers and industry-grade air movers to speed up the drying process, create crosscurrents and discourage the growth of mold and mildew. Keep dehumidifiers at least six to eight inches away from walls for the best air circulation. Run your air conditioning constantly to keep the environment cold.
Scrub The Floors And Walls
Hard surfaces like concrete, vinyl tile, linoleum, and others can be scrubbed with a mixture of chlorine bleach and water. Your carpet will need to be assessed and determined if it is salvageable. We test for delamination. Then, identify the pad so we can use a water claw to extract moisture. Finishing with a deep steam clean.
Address Potential Or Any Mold Problems
When plumbing or foundations are found leaking then causing basement flooding or crawl space flooding, we find that four in every five cases of these hazardous situations also present a serious mold issue. In this case, after the flood cleanup process has taken place. The next step is mold removal and remediation.
